Blue Ridge Mountain Farming in Rich River Bottom Top Soils
Nestled in a pristine mountain valley in the southwestern Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, the Gaia Herb Farm is one of the largest and most productive commercial medicinal herb farms in the U.S. We cultivate over 50 crops on 250 acres that are certified organic by Oregon Tilth (renowned as one of the strictest USDA-registered organic certifying agencies).

Diversity of Crops Grown in North Carolina and Costa Rica
Many important crops of commerce such as Echinacea angustifolia, Echinacea purpurea, Valerian, Gotu Kola, Nettles, Holy Basil, Ginkgo, Hawthorn, and Skullcap are grown exclusively for production of Gaia Herbs’ and Professional Solutions' products. Each year we begin our planting in climate-controlled greenhouses and then transplant over four million plants onto our fertile soils. We are also establishing a tropical farm in Costa Rica and we plan to grow certified organic passionflower, holy basil, and echinacea.

Rich Organic Soils Yield Optimal Activity of Crops
Every stage of production from organic soil enrichment programs, seed selection, cultivation, and crop monitoring, to research analysis for correct harvest time, sensitive harvesting practices, and dormant season cover cropping is carried out in a timely and well defined manner. The final product that we harvest then yields bio-activities of major active constituents in a range 2-10 times higher than the same crops harvested from other soils. Each year the inspectors from Oregon Tilth Certified Organic, a USDA registered agent, visit our farm and recertify our entire farm operation as certified organic.
